The Magickal and Mystical
Uses of Runes
(How to Read Runes and
use them in Magick)
Introduction to Rune Reading
Welcome to the world of Rune Stones. By the time you have completed these classes, you will have the basic knowledge necessary to complete a Rune reading and to use Runes in magickal endeavors.
Rune reading is the art of using the Runes to tap into your personal connection with the Universal force (God, god head, Universal light, Great Spirit, the Light, etc.) and use this connection to help yourself and others.
The main thing I urge all of my students is to not get hung up on differences of terminology. Like most everything else in the world, Runes stones come from several somewhat related cultures, but they are not the exact same culture and there are differences between both the symbols and the meanings of the runes between the various cultures.
Runes in various cultures
To give you an idea of how this affects the entire genre of Rune Stones, let's look at this author's genealogical background for a moment.
In tracing back by genealogy, I have found connections to England, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, the Netherlands, and Native Americans.
With the exception of Native Americans, all of these cultures had to a greater or lesser degree an affect on Runes.
None of these cultures had the exact same deities, yet there is some overlapping of deities within most of these cultures and all the cultures in the surrounding areas.
The reason is quiet simple. All of these cultures interacted to some degree throughout the early history of mankind, some to greater and some to lesser degrees than others. As tribes roamed from location to location and most eventually settled into specific areas, they brought their deities with them, along with all of the beliefs and myths that came with those deities.
Scholars debate the Runes origins
Scholars have debated for years and will continue to debate for time immortal in an attempt to fine tune the beliefs of when and how all the various beliefs and deities fit together.
I personally choose to not wait for them to complete their never ending debates, simply because about the time they finally come to a conclusion everyone (or most everyone) accepts, someone else will come along and find another bit of ancient history hidden in some long forgotten cave that proves none of them had it right and the debates will start all over again.
I know from my own personal experiences that using the Rune Stones in any of the generally accepted forms gets results.
I urge you to forget the debates, don't worry about whether you pronounce a runes name 100% correctly, and simply go with the flow. Allow the Runes to tap into your subconscious and bring forth information that can and will change your life and the lives of your clients if you choose to do readings for others.
Runes are a tool
So for you as a student, this means you will find the information I am giving you in this book is not the only information available on Runes. There is a lot of information out there that uses different names and in some cases different symbols in their runic alphabets. This does not mean I am right and they are wrong or vice versa. It simply means that the person writing the information you are reading is seeing the runic story from a different standpoint than what I see it.
Your job is to find which information most clearly resonates within you. I ask only that you keep in mind, whether you are using the information within these classes or information provided by someone else, use the information only as a guideline to helping you connect to the infinite wisdom that resides within you.
Runes are nothing more than a tool, just as an athame or wand is a tool. All tools have a purpose but rarely is it the purpose that you seek, it is the results that come from the use of the tools that matter.
